Career

Hugo García Larriva has a robust career spanning over 15 years in arbitration, litigation, public law, concessions, and telecommunications. He currently leads the arbitration practice and shares direction of litigation, public procurement-concessions, and telecommunications at CorralRosales.

In litigation, Hugo represents clients in complex cases before Ecuadorian courts, handling commercial, administrative, and constitutional matters. In arbitration, he leverages extensive experience in national and international arbitration proceedings under various rules including AMCHAM, CCQ, ICC, ICSID, UNCITRAL, and CIETAC, addressing commercial and investment issues. Hugo also serves actively as an arbitrator in proceedings governed by diverse regulations.

Previously, Hugo served as Director of Arbitration and Mediation at the Ecuadorian American Chamber of Commerce – AMCHAM; Deputy Director of Arbitration and Mediation at the Quito Chamber of Commerce; ICC YAAF Representative for Latin America; Executive Director of the Ecuadorian Institute of Arbitration; and member of the International Affairs and Arbitration Directorate at the Attorney General’s Office. He recently worked in the Office of the President of Ecuador, advising on Ecuador’s return to ICSID and drafting the Arbitration and Mediation Law Regulation.

Currently, Hugo is an arbitrator at the Arbitration Center of the Guayaquil Chamber of Commerce and a member of the international arbitration task force of the Ibero-Latin American chapter of the ICC Institute of World Business Law. He is also part of the prestigious Avance Arbitration Academy group of the ICC, representing Ecuador.

Hugo enriches his professional practice with valuable academic experience as a professor at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito and the Universidad de Las Américas, teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
