Gonzalo Martín de Nicolás

Gonzalo has over 25 years’ experience advising banks, alternative lenders, borrowers and sponsors on acquisition finance, project finance, real estate finance, restructuring and insolvency, and general corporate finance transactions. He also advises special situations funds on the assessment of distressed debt investment opportunities and the implementation of different workout strategies. Experienced in integrated multi-jurisdictional transactions across Europe, the Middle East, Asia or the US.

Lead Partner of the Banking and Finance practice at EY Abogados since 2019. Formerly he was a Partner in the Banking and Finance practice at Herbert Smith Freehills for 10 years. Prior to that Gonzalo developed his career at Allen & Overy, Davis Polk & Wardwell and Uría Menéndez.

Lecturer on Public Tender Offers and Project Finance in the Law Master of the Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE), the Madrid Bar Association, Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economía and Universidad Complutense de Madrid, among others. Author of books and publications on CSR, Takeover bids and Money Laundering.
