Giorgio has been practising law with Ogier in the Cayman Islands since 2002 and has been a partner since 2006. His practice spans Ogier's Corporate, Investment Funds, and Private Wealth groups. He is the co-head of Ogier's Global Latin American practice.
A large part of Giorgio's practice is investment funds, where he works on the whole life-cycle of hedge funds and closed-ended funds – private equity, venture capital, real estate – including guiding funds through stress points, such as during the 2008 financial crisis. Giorgio also acts for investors into funds and advises on the establishment and ongoing regulatory compliance of Cayman-based investment managers, investment advisers, distributors and arrangers.
His corporate practice is heavily focused on venture capital transactions, including the establishment of Cayman holding companies to support start-ups in their capital raising and international expansion, working with them on seed and later rounds of financing, and working with them on exits, either through M&A acquisition or IPO. He also represents investors into these VC structures. Other corporate work includes SPAC and de-SPAC transactions, general joint venture work and advising boards in respect of take-overs and mergers.
On the private wealth side, Giorgio has been one of the principal architects of Ogier's Cayman-based Private Wealth team since 2008. He now focuses on investment fund and corporate transactions that form part of private wealth planning and also advises clients on the full range of private wealth matters alongside Ogier's Trusts and Estates team.
What sets Giorgio's practice apart is his passion for Latin America, in particular Brazil and he has been the driving force behind Ogier's LatAm practice. Although he acts for a number of blue chip clients in the United Sates, United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Asia, Latin America is where the bulk of Giorgio's clients are based.
Before joining Ogier, Giorgio practiced at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York (1998 to 2002), Pinheiro Neto - Advogados in São Paulo (1994 to 1995) and Linklaters in London and Paris (1992 to 1994 and 1995 to 1997).
Giorgio received his Diploma de Estudios Hispánicos from the University of Málaga, Spain, in 1986; his Bachelor of Law with Honours from the University of London, King's College, in 1990; Maîtrise en Droit, avec mention, from the University of Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne, in the same year; and Master of Law from University of Michigan Law School at Ann Arbor in 1992.
Giorgio is a member of STEP and is a Notary Public in the Cayman Islands and a member of the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association, the Law Society of England and Wales and the New York Bar Association.
He is fluent in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.
