Gianni Gutiérrez Prieto

Gianni Gutiérrez leads the FERRERE Tax team and participates in tax structuring and design of the most important deals handled by the firm.

His professional activity ranges from structuring of mergers and acquisitions to design of financial products, and from real estate developments to personal wealth planning. He has successfully led the defense in the most significant disputes instituted by the Uruguayan tax authority against credit, financial, agribusiness and manufacturing companies.

His experience also includes corporate advice in different areas. Gutiérrez has handled tax and commercial matters for companies such as Archer Daniels Midland, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Inpex, Shell and Bimbo.

He has participated in diverse transactions related to renewable and nonrenewable energies –including design of the tax structure for wind farms and oil companies engaged in exploration and prospecting. He also has vast experience in matters involving aircraft and airline companies, and financial trusts.

He counsels the nonprofit organization “Techo,” which develops and builds housing solutions for families facing social emergencies, and Fundación Gonzalo Rodríguez, a foundation that works to improve the quality of life of Uruguayan children and young people, conducting programs that use sports as a means of education, development and social inclusion.

He has coauthored six books on tax matters: Trusts. Legal, tax and accounting aspects, Taxpayers facing tax inspections, The Taxpayers' Bill of Rights, Economic groups. Tax focus, Tax disputes resolutions issues, Annotated Custom Code, Limit to the creation and collections of taxes, Public expenses control, 250 questions regarding director and manager legal responsibilities.

He has published dozens of specialized articles in local and regional technical reviews.

He is an associate professor of Taxes at Universidad ORT and professor in the Executive Program at the same university.
