Fernanda Tanure

Fernanda A. Tanure is a partner in BMA’s Environmental, Climate and Mining practice area, with a distinguished practice in administrative and judicial litigation, and in the strategic resolution of environmental disputes.

She has extensive experience in environmental law, with experience in both the public sector and private practice.

Most recently, she served as Head of the Legal Department at CETESB – the Environmental Company of the State of São Paulo, one of the most renowned environmental agencies worldwide. In this role, in addition to defining the legal position on all matters submitted by the Presidency and other Directorates across a wide range of issues, she led the most significant licensing proceedings in the State of São Paulo. She also had the opportunity to draft regulations governing licensing, enforcement, and contaminated site management proceedings, as well as to establish legal strategies in both administrative and judicial litigation.

In private practice, Fernanda has been involved in matters of national and international relevance, consistently working on both contentious matters (including a large volume of judicial claims, whether collective or individual) and advisory work in environmental law. Her areas of focus include contaminated site management, infrastructure projects, energy, mining, steel, industry, sanitation, agribusiness, forestry, construction, and real estate. Fernanda served as a Reporting Member of the First Panel (Ethics) of the Ethics and Discipline Tribunal of the São Paulo Bar Association (OAB-SP).

In addition to speaking at events and publishing articles in books and journals, Fernanda is frequently invited to lecture on contaminated site management, environmental legislation and enforcement, and environmental procedural protection from the perspective of a public authority. She is also a member of the BMA Diversity Committee.
