Emily Mallen is an energy regulatory partner in Akin’s Projects & Energy Transition practice, based in Washington, D.C. Emily counsels clients in the natural gas, oil and products pipeline industries on federal regulatory, transactional and litigation matters, with a focus on compliance under key energy and environmental laws, including the Natural Gas Act, Natural Gas Policy Act, Interstate Commerce Act and National Environmental Policy Act.

She advises energy companies, developers and investors on a broad range of regulatory issues and frequently works with clients on some of the largest midstream infrastructure projects in the United States, including pipelines, underground natural gas storage facilities and liquefied natural gas import and export terminals as well as projects before the Texas Railroad Commission and the federal courts. Emily also has significant experience representing pipeline companies before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in rate and certificate proceedings and guiding projects through the NGPA Section 311 process. She also advises trade associations and industry participants on emerging issues in energy and natural resources law, including carbon capture and sequestration and renewable natural gas. Emily writes and speaks frequently on pipeline, energy regulatory and environmental justice issues.
