Head of the commercial property team, Derek is well respected in the Scottish property sector.

He advises on a wide range of transactions including acquisitions, disposals, development, commercial leasing and investment deals.

Among his clients are: commercial and residential developers, banks and funders, corporate occupiers, investors, property entrepreneurs and national charities. He is engaged in such diverse sectors as science and technology parks, retail, new homes, office developments and children’s nurseries.

Career

Derek trained and has worked in Scotland throughout his career. He became a partner in Lindsays in 2003.

Work Highlights

• Lead adviser to the RNIB having worked with them for over 20 years and during that period he has been involved in a number of high profile projects including the acquisition of their Scottish headquarters.

• Acted for a family office in a significant investment deal. This private family trust was a new client win for Lindsays and it acquired, for around £14m, a retail warehouse investment (held on a long lease) in Edinburgh let to Tesco Stores Limited.

• Acted in the investment sale at a multi-let office investment in central Glasgow. The deal successfully completed in a two week period from start to finish.

• Derek is recognised by Chambers and Partners: A Client's Guide to UK Solicitors 2023 as a notable practitioner. He is also recommended in the Legal 500 2023.
