Deirdre specialises in catastrophic clinical negligence and is widely recognised for her skill and expertise in perinatal asphyxia and paediatric neurological injury cases, as well as major neurosurgical, orthopaedic and oncology claims. Deirdre has earned a reputation as a skilled advocate who has the ability quickly to distil the issues including those of causation and mental capacity. She is known to be a strong negotiator with a keen intuition for an opponent’s position and is proactive, turning around work speedily in order to maintain momentum in a claim including meticulously pleaded schedules of loss in high value claims. Reported cases include Bolitho v City and Hackney Health Authority [1998] A.C. 238 HL , Murphy v Wirral Health Authority (1996) 7 Med LR 99 CA and AC (a minor suing by his litigation friend MC) v St Georges Healthcare NHS Trust [2015] EWHC 3644. Approved settlements for claimants and defendants include claims where damages are in the high millions. Deirdre also has extensive experience in all areas of personal injury practice, in particular catastrophic head injury, spinal trauma and Fatal Accident cases.
