Career

Clara Moreira Azzoni is a partner in Felsberg Advogados’ Restructuring and Insolvency Department and has extensive experience advising creditors, debtors and investors in complex judicial and extrajudicial reorganization proceedings, bankruptcy settlements and a wide range of insolvency-related matters. She has been involved in some of the most significant insolvency cases in Brazil since the enactment of Law No. 11,101/05, including matters that were winners or finalists of Latin Lawyer’s annual Deal of the Year awards. Previous significant cases on which Clara has worked include sugar and ethanol group Grupo Moreno, Ricardo Eletro (the then largest restructuring in Brazil's retail sector). She also acted as lead partner for creditor groups in Americanas and Casas Bahia, both significant recent cases in the retail sector. Clara has been recognized as Band 5 by Chambers and as a Leading Partner by The Legal 500, ranked by Leaders League, and indicated as “Thought Leaders - Restructuring & Insolvency” by Lexology Index Thought Leaders. Over the past 12 months, she acted as leading partner in several judicial reorganisation proceedings, bankruptcies and capital markets debt restructurings.

Clara is a member of the Bankruptcy Law Committee of the Institute of Lawyers of São Paulo (IASP), the Center of Women in Corporate Restructuring (CMR), the IWIRC (International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation) and the Turnaround Management Association of Brazil (TMA Brasil). She is admitted to the Brazilian Bar Association, São Paulo section (OAB/SP).

Work Highlights

Her recent experience includes advising:

• Debenture holders of Concessionária Rodovias do Tiete, in its judicial recovery process, on the debt restructuring to recover the credit of BRL 1.5 billion;

• In the BRL 49.9 billion judicial reorganization of Grupo Americanas, winner of Latin Lawyer’s 2025 Deal of the Year in Restructuring;

• One of the largest groups in the sugar-energy sector in its judicial recovery with more than BRL 2 billion in debt;

• The second largest creditor in the judicial reorganization of a Brazilian conglomerate operating in the construction and engineering areas, with more than BRL 98 billion in debt;

• An energy group during its judicial reorganization process involving the recovery of a debt valued at more than BRL 1 billion and the sale of the controlling interest in the group to Energisa;

• A group of bondholders during the judicial reorganization process of a Brazilian sugar and ethanol producer;

• A business group focused on oil and gas during its judicial recovery process involving debt valued at more than BRL 500 million;

• An energy equipment construction group during its judicial recovery process involving debt valued at more than BRL 1 billion;

• Bondholders during legal proceedings involving the claim of USD 500 million guaranteed by the company's mortgage, as well as in other matters related to the recovery process.
