Christian Caetano

Christian specialises in Insurance & Financial Services, as part of which he acts for both Gibraltar based and international firms, including insurance companies, insurtechs, MGAs, insurance managers and intermediaries on licensing, regulatory and corporate matters.

Christian also advises on Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), including acting on change of control applications to the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC), corporate restructures, company redomiciliation and insurance portfolio transfers. In particular, Christian has extensive expertise in cross-border transactions involving GFSC regulated firms and the undertaking of legal due diligence for both potential acquirers and vendors.

He also undertakes legislative drafting and advisory work, having acted in respect of the transposition of various European Union Directives into Gibraltar law and the onshoring of European legislation as part of Gibraltar’s withdrawal from the European Union. In addition, Christian acted on the review and drafting of sector-specific regulations for the Legislative Reform Programme (LRP), which comprised the single largest review and reform of Gibraltar’s financial services legislation.

Christian is ranked by Chambers & Partners in their General Business Law: Corporate / Commercial category ‘in recognition of his excellent insurance expertise’. He is also ranked as a Next Generation Partner by the Legal 500, where he is noted as ‘extremely reliable’ and for his ‘wealth of knowledge in the area of financial services law’.

Additionally, Christian currently acts as an independent Non-Executive Director to a Gibraltar captive insurance company, as well as being a member of the Office of Fair Trading’s Decision-Making Committee
