Practice Areas

A partner in the tax practice, Chris acts as lead tax counsel for a wide range of clients and industries, including private equity, infrastructure and hedge funds, REITs, financial institutions, energy and mining companies and high-net-worth individuals, including a number of Canada’s most successful professional athletes and entertainers. He has significant depth and breadth of experience in all aspects of tax planning, including in cross-border transactions, mergers & acquisitions, clean economy tax credits, reorganizations, debt restructurings, insolvency proceedings, equity compensation plans and spinoffs. Chris also represents taxpayers in disputes with the Canada Revenue Agency and provincial authorities. He chaired the Law Society of Ontario’s Taxation of Real Estate Transactions Conference and has presented at conferences for the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Law Society of Ontario and the International Fiscal Association. Chris is a co-author of the textbook Canadian Taxation of Trusts.
