THE CHAMBERS Atkin Chambers is a leading set of commercial barristers, based in London, with an international reputation for providing advocacy and advice on cases concerning domestic and worldwide construction, engineering and infrastructure projects development and disputes. Cases are extremely varied and include transport, power, water/sanitation, IT and telecommunications, and social infrastructure projects. Wider commercial and professional negligence work is often related to such disputes.

The barristers at Atkin Chambers offer a huge breadth and depth of experience in technically complex disputes and many are recognised as being leaders in their field. In the UK members work on cases of all sizes in court and arbitration from domestic disputes to many landmark and high-profile cases including, for example, disputes relating to The Shard, Wembley Stadium, the Olympic Village, the Channel Tunnel, The British Library, The Rolls Building, Heathrow T5, the M25 and London Underground, as well as major oil and gas, and renewable energy projects on and offshore.

A substantive amount of members’ work involves representing clients in court and they are regulars in the Business, Property and Appellate Courts.

International work frequently involves complex cross-border disputes, involving parties from several jurisdictions. Disputes are often commercially and/or politically sensitive.

Members and door tenants practise in many of the world’s leading arbitration centres and are highly-experienced in handling disputes under the major international arbitration rules. They are called upon to act as arbitrators, adjudicators, mediators, and more generally as members of arbitral panels and international dispute boards, and chairs of public inquiries or similar.

A number of authoritative and influential texts are authored and edited in Chambers including the Building Law Reports and the International Construction Law Review. The seminal work on the law relating to building and engineering contracts in the UK and internationally - Hudson’s Building and Engineering Contracts — has been edited by Chambers since 1959 and is cited in many common law jurisdictions.
