What is the difference between the Global Market Leaders and Global-wide rankings?

The purpose of the newly branded Global Market Leaders is to differentiate ranking areas that are practiced globally from practice areas that are international in nature. Global Market Leaders identify truly specialist firms that are heavily involved in what might be better described as niche, but highly influential parts of an international market. (Example, Climate Change.) Global-wide rankings includes practice areas that are present in multiple jurisdictions and require expertise at a local level. (Example, Corporate M&A.)

A Global Market Leader ranking indicates a firm’s specialty in an international market, whereas Global-wide rankings indicates a firm’s global reach for a particular practice area.
This distinction allows firms to focus submissions and references for Global Market Leader rankings and global-wide rankings will be determined with research conducted on the local level for other regional guides.
