William Cavanaugh is a senior litigation Partner and served as Co-Chair of Patterson Belknap from 2007 to 2017. His areas of concentration include antitrust, intellectual property and commercial litigation. Mr. Cavanaugh also served in 2009-2010 as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division. A skilled trial attorney with extensive experience in both state and federal courts as well as in arbitrations, Mr. Cavanaugh has served as national and trial counsel for defendants in several large multiparty antitrust, fraud and consumer protection litigations across the United States. His clients include major pharmaceutical, medical device and financial services companies. He is currently representing the lead State plaintiffs in their antitrust case against Google. He has also successfully litigated and tried numerous patent cases. Mr. Cavanaugh is an elected Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
