Vincent Levy, a former law clerk to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court and to then-Chief Judge Douglas H. Ginsburg of the D.C. Circuit, is a trial and appellate lawyer described by clients and peers as a “brilliant attorney” who “can tackle the toughest legal issues and explain them in clear compelling briefs.”
Vince acts as lead counsel to sophisticated clients in trial and appellate courts as well as arbitration proceedings, primarily in complex commercial disputes, and has been counsel of record in high-profile matters in the U.S. Supreme Court in cases raising important issues of constitutional, administrative, and statutory law.
Some of his recent wins include:
• Serving as co-lead trial counsel in a federal jury trial that secured a nearly nine-plus-figure verdict, and then led a successful appeal to the Ninth Circuit obtaining reinstatement of the verdict in full after the district court set the verdict aside post-trial.
• Arguing and securing a unanimous victory at the U.S. Supreme Court in Waetzig v. Halliburton Energy Services, Inc., which concerned a circuit split over whether federal courts can reopen voluntarily dismissed lawsuits. Legal analyst Adam Feldman lauded Vince’s brief as a “tour de force in advocacy” and a “masterclass.”
• Securing a win for issuers of collateralized loan obligations at the Fifth Circuit in an appeal with major implications for corporate finance. The decision invalidated a so-called “uptier” transaction—a controversial type of debt restructuring that gives select lenders’ repayment priority at the expense of others.
Before joining Holwell Shuster & Goldberg, Vince practiced at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz.

His clients have included public and private businesses, hedge funds, law firms, public interest organizations, sovereign entities, and individuals—including current and former directors of companies such as Sears and Codere SA.
Vince has substantial trial experience, having taken multiple business matters to verdict before juries and arbitration award before arbitrators, as lead and co-lead counsel. He has also briefed and argued multiple appeals in state and federal appeals courts, including the United States Supreme Court.
