Dr Rosanne Bonnici is a Partner and Head of Tax & Immigration at Fenech & Fenech Advocates. She heads the firm’s Tax & Immigration Law Department, also forming part of the Financial Services and Corporate Commercial Teams respectively. Additionally, Rosanne forms part of the firm’s Executive Committee as well as of the management team leading the firm’s corporate and trust services group, Fenlex.
Rosanne has been practising law for over 30 years. She advises a largely international clientele, acting for both corporate and private clients. Her main areas of practice are domestic and international taxation, wealth and succession planning, immigration law, corporate law, trusts and foundations law.
She heads the firm’s Corporate Tax practice, having extensive experience advising companies, partnerships and individuals on the tax aspects of domestic and cross-border transactions. Her areas of expertise include advising on complex M&A as well as financial transactions, as well as advising on corporate reorganisations and group tax planning.
Rosanne also heads the firm’s Private Client practice. She specialises in tax and estate planning advice for individuals and their families as well as related advice to trustees and other private client service providers, such as family offices. Much of her work has an international element, including structuring multi-jurisdictional estates, using trusts and foundations in civil law and common law countries, and providing tax and fiduciary advice to non-Maltese trustees and administrators.
She also has extensive expertise in Malta pre-relocation planning for non-domiciliaries, remittance tax basis advice and the implementation of trusts, foundations, wills and associated mechanisms on arrival, for entrepreneurs and other high-net-worth individuals. Rosanne is also involved in the handling of estates, both in Malta and overseas.
Rosanne is a founder member, past Deputy President, past Chair of the Technical Committee, and Fellow of the Malta Institute of Taxation, currently member of the Tax Tech; founder member of the STEP (Malta) branch; founder member of the IFA (Malta) branch; elected Council member and Honorary Secretary of the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners, member of its Tax and EU Affairs sub-committee; member of the International Bar Association and the Chamber of Advocates.
World Tax (International Tax Review) has, on several occasions, ranked the firm and its Tax team as the recognised legal tax law practice in Malta in the private client, tax and tax controversy areas respectively. The team is also regularly ranked in Chambers as the leading law practice in Malta for high-net-worth clients. In addition, the firm is regularly ranked in other leading publications such as Legal 500 and IFLR 1000 and, most recently, won the Law Firm of the Year – Malta award at the Citywealth International Financial Awards for its private client work on a number of occasions.
