He graduated in 2001 as a Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta, holds a Masters of Arts in Financial Services (MA Fin Serv) from the same university and was admitted to the Bar in 2002. Joined the firm in 2002 and elected to partnership in 2010. Ghio is a visiting lecturer in Aviation Law at the Doctoral Degree within the Faculty of Laws, University of Malta and Securities Regulation at the MA Fin Serv programme of the same Faculty. He sits on the Council of the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners, Malta.

Professional memberships include the Camera degli Avvocati of Malta, the International Bar Association, the European Air Law Association and the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
