Richard Rainey

Richard Rainey is a first-chair IP litigator who has led numerous high-profile technology cases in district courts, the ITC, and at the Federal Circuit. Law360 named Mr. Rainey a 2019 MVP for his “extraordinary” wins and contributions to IP litigation. Mr. Rainey has been the go-to lawyer for major technology companies facing critical battles, helping numerous companies prevail in complex, high-technology and life sciences litigation. Mr. Rainey is further a well-recognized, leading advocate for IP disputes throughout the appellate process, having handled more than 75 appeals to the Federal Circuit and assisted clients with Supreme Court review. Having completed his undergraduate work at MIT, technology companies turn to Mr. Rainey as a leading voice in presenting and explaining sophisticated technologies to courts around the country. Prior to his representation of major technology companies in private practice over the past 25 years, Mr. Rainey served as a law clerk in the patent-focused District of Delaware for Judge Roderick R. McKelvie and then as a law clerk for former Chief Judge Randall R. Rader at the Federal Circuit. Mr. Rainey is an adjunct professor at GW Law School and a frequently speaker on IP litigation topics.
