Practice Areas
Gretchen Hoff Varner is an experienced trial lawyer who has recovered hundreds of millions of dollars from insurers on behalf of her clients. She has successfully litigated, arbitrated, and tried complex coverage disputes in matters ranging from cyber-liability, catastrophic property damage and business interruption, event cancellation, product liability, product recall, intellectual property, D&O, mass tort, professional liability, general liability, automobile insurance, long tail environmental and bodily injury claims, and bad faith. Representative clients include Target, McKesson, ExxonMobil, Clorox, and the PGA of America.
Outside the courtroom, Gretchen serves as a trusted advisor to corporate decision-makers, providing strategic counsel on coverage programs, claims strategy, and risk management. She regularly resolves high-dollar matters without the need for litigation.
In her pro bono work, Ms. Hoff Varner led the Covington trial team that successfully overturned New York City's racially discriminatory stop-and-frisk policy after a three-month trial in the Southern District of New York.
