Practice Areas

Partner, Richard heads the Environment team. He is relationship partner for Natural England and the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) and advises a number of local authorities and non-departmental public bodies upon environmental law, judicial review and risk management issues. This year Richard has (amongst others) advised:

A Hiscox insured in relation to a complex contamination of a property;

The Comptroller and Auditor-General of Northern Ireland in relation to his evidence to the Northern Ireland RHI Inquiry;

The London Borough of Croydon concerning its contract with a water company for the payment of water charges in respect of the Borough’s housing stock;

Walsall MBC in relation to a contaminated land matter

.

Richard is Chair of the Green Nottingham Partnership. As Chair of the UK Environmental Law Association’s Nature Conservation Working Party, he is an active member of the Association’s Brexit Group.

Career

Trained Hertfordshire County Council; qualified 1989; joined Browne Jacobson from Walker Morris in 1990; partner Browne Jacobson 1999. Publications of note: Practitioner’s contributions to ‘Garner’s Rights of Way’. Former member of the Council of Management of UKELA; legal associate RTPI 1992.
