Rafaël Jafferali specialises in dispute resolution (including arbitration and proceedings before the Belgian Supreme Court), contract law, tort law and cross-border disputes.
He acts in major and landmark judicial proceedings (including class actions and cases before the Supreme Court), and in arbitration cases. He also advises clients on complex questions in his areas of practice.
Rafaël has represented the European Commission and the 27 Member States against AstraZeneca for its delays of delivery of millions of doses of Covid-19 vaccines to the EU.
He is a member of the group of experts appointed by the Minister of Justice to recodify the law of obligations and specific contracts.
Rafaël is regularly asked to deliver expert opinions to be used before foreign courts or arbitral tribunals. His expertise in arbitration is recognised by the Cepani (Belgian Center for arbitration and mediation). He regularly acts both as arbitrator and counsel and delivers expert opinions in arbitration cases, both domestic and international, as well as in proceedings pertaining to the challenge of arbitral awards.
Rafaël Jafferali is a Professor for the Chair of Law of Obligations at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and Affiliated Senior Researcher at the KU Leuven.
