Practice Areas
Paul’s work embraces the whole spectrum of PI work but he has a particular expertise in local authority liability, occupational stress, asbestos litigation and abuse-related work, in which he has recently appeared in the ground-breaking cases of N v Poole BC (SC), HXA v Surrey CC (SC) and AB v Worcestershire CC (CA).
Clinical negligence: Paul has a defendant-focused practice mainly consisting of medium and high-value claims, covering a range of subject-matter from mental health provision to spinal surgery.
Police law: Paul is instructed in a wide range of malfeasance cases on behalf of the Metropolitan Police and other forces nationwide. He has experience of dealing with cases involving fatal shootings, deaths in custody and highly controversial arrests and prosecutions. Much of his police-related work involves human rights claims. He also advises police forces as to their powers and policies.
Public law: Paul has long-standing expertise in social security, community care and education law, conducting statutory appeals in the First Tier and Upper Tribunals and judicial review litigation.
Inquests and inquiries: Paul is regularly instructed in inquests involving controversial deaths in which public officials are implicated, mainly on behalf of local authorities or the police.
