Career

Yan Teng is a Partner in the Construction and Engineering Disputes practice, with a focus on complex construction, infrastructure, and engineering disputes. She has acted for employers, main contractors, and subcontractors across a broad spectrum of dispute resolution forums, including adjudication under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012 (CIPAA), domestic and international arbitration, and litigation at all levels of the Malaysian courts, including the Federal Court.

Her practice encompasses both contentious and advisory work, including contract structuring, risk management, and project-related advisory for large-scale infrastructure and engineering developments. She has been involved in high-value and technically complex disputes, and is regularly engaged in matters involving payment disputes, delay and extension of time claims, final account disputes, and performance bond issues.

Work Highlights

Acting as part of the legal team in arbitration and adjudication proceedings involving construction disputes in the sum of approximately RM 169 million.

Acted as part of the legal team in arbitration and adjudication proceedings for the largest sporting goods retailer in the world.

Acted as part of the legal team in arbitration and adjudication proceedings relating to the construction project of one of the tallest buildings in Malaysia.

Acted as part of the legal team in a Dispute Adjudication Board (DAB) case held at the SIAC involving construction of power plant dispute in the sum in excess of RM 100 million.

Acted for a construction company on enforcement of an Adjudication Decision up to the Federal Court [Econpile (M) Sdn Bhd v ASM Development (KL) Sdn Bhd and another appeal [2024] 3 MLJ 157].

Acted as junior counsel for one of Malaysia's leading developers in defending various purchasers' claims for defective works and loss of use & enjoyment of the properties [Sime Darby Property (Bukit Jelutong) Sdn Bhd (digantikan menurut Perintah Mahkamah Rayuan bertarikh 9 July 2025) v Ooi Cheng Huat @ Ooi Peng Huat (menyaman atas namanya sendiri dan sebagai wasi dan pemegang amanah harta pusaka Linda Patricia Lim Sooi Hong, si mati) & Ors and other appeals [2026] MLJU 347].
