Norbert Knutel

Norbert's practice covers many facets of securities and corporate law, with particular emphasis on public and private funds and other forms of structured products. In addition to his expertise in public funds (including mutual funds, ETFs, alternative funds and closed-end funds), he has extensive experience in structuring, formation and distribution of both domestic and foreign-domiciled investment products, including private equity, infrastructure, private debt, real estate, mortgage and crypto funds and other pooled investments. Norbert also provides advice to fund managers and dealers on securities registration, regulatory and compliance matters.

Norbert has significant experience in M&A acting for purchasers and vendors in a wide range of industries with specific expertise in asset management, infrastructure and financial services. He frequently acts for financial sponsors and private equity investors and funds in connection with buyouts, exits and shareholder arrangements. Norbert has also led many capital market transactions acting for underwriters on initial public offerings (IPOs) and other equity offerings.

Norbert has played a principal role in the development and growth of Canada's special purpose acquisition corporation (SPAC) sector where he has advised SPACs, sponsors and targets throughout various stages of a SPAC's life.
