Norbert Knutel

Norbert's practice covers many facets of securities and corporate law, with particular emphasis on public and private funds and other forms of structured products. In addition to his expertise in public funds (including mutual funds, ETFs, alternative funds and closed-end funds), he has extensive experience in structuring, formation and distribution of both domestic and foreign-domiciled investment products, including private equity, infrastructure, private debt, real estate, mortgage and crypto funds and other pooled investments. Norbert also provides advice to fund managers and dealers on securities registration, regulatory and compliance matters.

Norbert has significant experience in M&A acting both for purchasers and vendors in a wide range of industries with specific expertise in asset management and financial services and regularly acts as counsel to issuers and underwriters in public and private financings.

Norbert has played a principal role in the development and growth of Canada's special purpose acquisition corporation (SPAC) sector where he has advised various SPACs throughout various steps including with respect to their initial public offerings, the SPAC's qualifying acquisition transaction as well as fund formation matters for their sponsors.
