Miles Specialises in Consumer Law (criminal, regulatory and advisory) Health and Safety, Inquests, Transport Law, Trade Mark Infringement, and Copyright Theft. As well as acting as leading junior counsel in large scale consumer frauds he regularly appears in Case Stated, Judicial Review proceedings and the Court of Appeal in complex appellate work.
Miles has been instructed to defend in several Corporate Manslaughter / Gross Negligence Manslaughter cases, and was part of the team that secured the first ever acquittal at trial of a company charged with Corporate Manslaughter. He is regularly instructed to represent the interests of companies, local authorities, directors, partnerships, hospital trusts, doctors and individuals at inquests and subsequent criminal proceedings.
Miles has prosecuted for and provided advice to the OFT (as was)/CMA and was leading junior in the first ever prosecution of a pyramid promotional scheme in the UK in a case involving 11 defendants (9 pleaded or were convicted) and a loss to consumers of some £20m, numerous Local Authorities nationwide and private prosecution organisations such as F.A.C.T.
Miles defends major Plc’s in the retail sector, (in particular the supermarket sector) companies, directors and individuals in relation to both Consumer Law and Health and Safety offences.
