Carolina specialises in consumer law, serious crime, and professional disciplinary proceedings.
Carolina is instructed by trading standards departments in a wide range of consumer cases, usually prior to charge. On secondment as Senior Prosecutor at the Brent and Harrow Trading Standards Service, she was involved in the Service’s civil forfeiture caseload, and provided advice in relation to the Enterprise Act 2002.
Carolina achieves results whether prosecuting or defending serious crime. Defending, she recently secured an acquittal for her client accused of arranging the shooting of her ex-partner (her son pulled the trigger, and she was in the room). Prosecuting, she is currently instructed in several £multi-million revenue frauds.
Carolina is regularly instructed in high-value and complex confiscation proceedings, ordinarily be beyond counsel of her call. She has acted in a £60m money laundering, a £40m VAT fraud, and secured a £1 nominal order in the largest mortgage fraud ever prosecuted in England and Wales.
Carolina frequently represents professionals before their disciplinary tribunals. Recent cases include: securing a conditions of practice order for a paramedic who falsified records to conceal stealing codeine; and representing a police officer accused of stealing donuts.
Publications
Early in her career, Carolina became a Contributing Author to “Consumer and Trading Standards: Law and Practice” (the 2013 edition of affectionately known “the Pink Book”).
She has frequently contributed to TS Review, and is a Lexis Nexis “Expert”.
For the last decade, Carolina has enjoyed speaking at the annual CTSI Conference.
