An accomplished lawyer with more than 25 years' experience as a litigator, Michelle practices in maritime and transport law. Michelle has been recognised internationally for her extensive experience in shipping casualties. She has depth of experience in Federal Court Admiralty practice and maritime related disputes in the Asia-Pacific region. Michelle is experienced in all areas of marine insurance in Australian and London markets.
Michelle is Head of Maritime & Transport at Sparke Helmore, joining as a partner from Colin Biggers & Paisley. She previously worked as a maritime lawyer with Norton Rose Fulbright. Michelle brings more than a decade of working with the Commonwealth, including Defence and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
Michelle is Vice-President of Maritime Law Association of Australia & New Zealand and attended the CMI Colloquium in Mexico City 2019 representing MLAANZ. She is on the Executive of AMTAC.
Michelle recently contributed to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development consultation on Australia's accession to the Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks. She has also presented at Spillcon, the Asia-Pacific Oil Spill Prevention & Preparedness Conference.
Michelle enjoys diving on shipwrecks, cello concerts and running with her sons.
