Practice Areas
Maya specialises in the care and treatment of prisoners across England and Wales, and has a particular interest in claims relating to the women’s prison estate and deaths in custody. She has expertise in claims relating to all areas of human rights and discrimination, access to healthcare and serious injury, and in judicial review proceedings. She also regularly represents bereaved families in inquest proceedings into deaths in custody arising from inadequate healthcare, suicide and violence.
Career
Maya qualified as a solicitor in 2020, having completed her training at Leigh Day. She has a BA in Law from the University of Cambridge, and extensive experience working with prisoners prior to her qualification as a solicitor. During her training and since qualifying, she has carefully developed a varied case load and expertise across all areas of the team’s work.
