Career
Called in 2003, Matthew Maynard is a specialist family practitioner with a wide children law practice, encompassing public and private law children proceedings.
Matthew is a qualified Arbitrator under the IFLA Financial Scheme and sits as a Recorder in children and financial remedy cases.
He is recommended as a leading junior by both Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500.
Public Law Children
Matthew’s primary area of practice is complex public law proceedings. He has specific experience of cases involving allegations of:
• Death
• Catastrophic inflicted injury, including brain injury
• Inflicted fractures, including multiple fractures
• Serious sexual abuse
• Fabricated/Induced Illness
• Suffocation
• Human trafficking
• FGM
• Radicalisation
He is recognised as being particularly sensitive when dealing with vulnerable clients, often when capacity is an issue. He has a particular interest in cases involving inflicted brain injury.
Matthew has been led on numerous occasions and regularly undertakes cases in which he appears against King’s Counsel in his own right.
Private Law Children
Matthew’s private law practice is focused on cases involving allegations of the utmost severity, in particular where there are allegations of domestic abuse and serious harm.

Matthew was a member of the Family Law Bar Association National Executive Committee, 2022–2025.
