Chicago partner Mark Blocker is one of the leaders of the firm’s ERISA litigation practice and co-leader of the global Insurance Dispute practice. Mark’s practice focuses on class action in two primary areas: ERISA and consumer/financial services. In the ERISA area, Mark has litigated a wide array of class action claims, including stock drop cases, 401(k) plan fees and expenses, defined contribution investment products, cash balance plans, defined benefit plans, retiree medical coverage, and challenges to health and welfare plans. Mark has been involved in assisting clients with inquiries brought by the Department of Labor. In addition, Mark spent a large portion of his career defending breach of fiduciary duty claims brought against institutional fiduciaries. In the consumer area, Mark has defended virtually every kind of consumer class action brought against financial service companies. He has defended many insurance companies, credit card issuers, national banks, mortgage lenders, financial institutions and telecommunications companies. Mark has also regularly litigated issues involving consumer arbitration clauses.
