Career
Senior Partner of BARLAW – Barrera & Asociados with over 20 years of experience in Intellectual Property law. She specializes in trademarks, copyrights, domain names and advertising law, and is also an expert in litigation and anti-piracy. She plays a prominent role in enforcement matters, actively contributing to the design of strategies for the protection of trademarks, patents and other IP assets.
She is currently a member of several committees in INTA and ASIPI and was recently appointed as an expert for Peru within UNIFAB (Union des Fabricants). María Inés frequently participates in international events, including her recent role as a speaker at the Leaders League Alliance Summit 2024 on the panel “IP Trends to Watch in 2024” and as moderator at the Latin America IP Summit for the panel “Brand Protection – Fighting Fakes”, organized by IAM and WTR.
She co-authored the Peruvian chapter of the second edition of the “Law Over Borders Anti-Counterfeiting Comparative Law Guide”, published by The Global Legal Post. Her work and leadership have earned her international recognition, including being named among WIPR’s 50 Influential Women in IP 2024 and the WIPR Diversity Top 100, underscoring her impact in the IP field and her commitment to diversity and inclusion.
