Laura Prather focuses her practice on First Amendment, Anti-SLAPP, intellectual property and media and entertainment litigation and appeals. She also has extensive government relations experience as an advocate on First Amendment and open government concerns on the state and national level. Prather was instrumental in the passage of several significant free speech laws including Texas’ reporter’s privilege, Anti-SLAPP and retraction statutes, and its neutral reportage defense. In addition, Laura served as the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Advisor to the Uniform Law Commission’s Drafting Committee that developed a national model Anti-SLAPP Act. She has been named by The American Lawyer as one of the 45 best young women lawyers in the nation. She was also recently awarded with the American Lawyer’s inaugural Tony Mauro Media Lawyer of the Year Award in recognition of her tireless and successful efforts litigating and advocating in defense of and to strengthen First Amendment rights.
