Career
Kemar Roberts is a Partner at One Legal Caribbean and is a member of the firm’s corporate and commercial practice group as well as its litigation and dispute resolution team, operating across the firm’s offices in Antigua and Barbuda and Barbados. He is a dual-qualified Attorney-at-Law, admitted to the Barbados Bar in 2018 and the Antigua and Barbuda Bar in 2019. He holds a Bachelor of Laws with Upper Second Class Honours from the University of the West Indies (2016) and a Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School (2018). With over seven years of experience, Kemar advises regional and international clients on a broad range of commercial matters including real estate transactions, asset purchase agreements, succession planning, ship mortgage registrations, corporate restructuring, and mergers and acquisitions. He also drafts commercial agreements and provides counsel to financial institutions on securities and debt recovery matters.
His litigation experience encompasses enforcement of foreign judgments, injunctive proceedings, judicial review proceedings, landlord-tenant disputes, subrogation claims, matrimonial claims, and general contract and tort cases. He has represented clients at the Magistrates Court, High Court, and Court of Appeal. Beyond traditional legal practice, Kemar has a keen interest in fintech and emerging technologies, having authored an article titled “Digital Currencies & The Regulatory Sandbox Era: A Progressive Regulatory Approach for Barbados,” published in the Organisation of Commonwealth Caribbean Bar Associations (OCCBA) Journal in 2019. He is actively involved in the legal community, having served on the Membership, Continuing Legal Education, and Ethics Committees of the Antigua and Barbuda Bar Association, and is a Director of the Antigua and Barbuda National Mooting Association.
