Practice Areas

Julia is the Head of the Cardiff office and specialises in clinical negligence.

Career

Julia has over 25 years of experience. She leads the Cardiff office and medical negligence team in the region. Despite only establishing a presence in April 2024 and officially opening the office in November 2024, the team has already made a notable impact.

Julia holds Headway accreditation as a head injury specialist and serves as the key contact for Leigh Day’s partnership with Headway Cardiff. She helps connect individuals and families across Wales affected by brain injuries to the support they need.

Julia has covered the whole spectrum of Medical Negligence work in her practice. She has a particular interest in maternity cases, including cerebral palsy and maternal injuries. She also deals with delayed diagnosis, negligent treatment and surgical errors. She has represented adults lacking capacity, bereaved families and children, handling complex cases such as brain injury, fatal claims, amputations, cauda equina, oncology, stroke, and cardiac cases.

Julia is also sought out and instructed by families impacted by the investigations into the paediatric surgeons, Yaser Jabbar (Great Ormond Street, London) and Kuldeep Stohr (Addenbrooke's, Cambridge).

Previous cases where Julia has acted:

- Cerebral palsy

- Amputation

- Baby loss

- Surgical errors

- Negligent neurological care

- Delays in diagnosis of cancer

- Delays in diagnosis of stroke

- Fatal claims

- Delay in treating compartment syndrome

- Radiological breaches

- Wrongful birth

- Negligent A&E care

- Successful trial on limitation as a preliminary issue.

Julia has been recognised as one of the three best-rated clinical negligence solicitors in Cardiff and as one of the city’s most influential lawyers.

She is regularly sought out by clients to provide advice and representation due to her profile in the field.

Julia believes that through her work, she can do much to raise awareness and the profile of recurrent issues to improve patient safety for all.

Having seen the devastating impact when things go wrong, it has been a privilege to work with families impacted.

“They already feel let down by one set of professionals, and it is very much my focus to build a relationship of trust and confidence with my clients. I regularly visit clients at home. It is important that clients can talk openly and honestly about the challenges that they face, together with their fears for the future. This helps me to comprehensively prepare a case and maximise results.”

Julia is a seasoned litigator and is not afraid to take on difficult cases and fight for the justice that her clients deserve.

Clients

Another aspect of her role is that she works closely with charities that support families impacted by these types of injuries. Charity support is vital. They are often uniquely placed to understand those challenges, often having lived experience. Julia works hard to offer her charity partners as much time and support as she can.

She serves as the key contact for Leigh Day’s partnership with Headway Cardiff, supporting individuals and families affected by brain injuries. For more information or to discuss how she can assist, please reach out to Julia directly.

‘‘This is a very important partnership. When an individual is impacted by a brain injury, it can be a very distressing and uncertain time for both them and their family. Headway can immediately be on hand, to offer understanding and practical support, when families need it most. It is important to us at Leigh Day to make sure that families get that immediate support in the early days and throughout their journey.’’

In addition, Julia also works closely with peer-led family support groups in the region, including the Swansea Bay Maternity Support group.
