S. Joy Dowdle is a partner in the Litigation Department of Paul Hastings and serves as co-chair of the firm’s Houston office. A leader in the firm’s Compliance practice, Joy advises corporations of all sizes and across industries on the assessment, design and implementation of effective, integrated compliance programs and related internal controls. Joy brings a practical, business-minded and enforcement-tested approach to compliance, integrating multiple legal regimes and risk areas — including anti-corruption, sanctions and trade, antitrust and healthcare compliance — into cohesive compliance strategies, programs and controls. Clients regularly turn to Joy for partnership and guidance across the full compliance life cycle, from risk assessments and monitoring, third-party risk management and oversight to transactional and project due diligence, integration and governance at the senior management and board levels.
Joy also has significant experience conducting investigations and corporate monitorships globally, as well as developing and implementing comprehensive remediation programs. Prior to joining Paul Hastings, Joy served as a law clerk to the Honorable E. Grady Jolly of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and practiced law in Houston, Washington, D.C. and London.
