Joost Houdijk

Joost specializes in European and Competition law. He advises and litigates on cartels and abuse of a dominant position. Joost regularly assists companies in merger control notifications. He represents businesses and government organizations in proceedings before the European Commission, the Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets, the Dutch courts and the European Court of Justice. In addition to competition law, his field of work also covers Benelux Foreign Direct Investment ('FDI') regulation, the EU freedom of movement law, EU transportation law and consumer protection law.

Clients appreciate Joost’s sharp analysis of the underlying issues with a keen eye for the specific situation of the organizations in question. They see how he always aims to get the maximum out of a case based on dedication and creativity. Joost has published a large number of articles and annotations in many academic journals, as well as books and book contributions. In 2009 he was awarded his doctorate for an extensive thesis on public interests in competition law. Joost is a member of the board-of-editors of the multilingual academic journal DAOR that covers the whole field of business and corporate law in the Benelux. He lectures at private educational institutions and universities, including Utrecht University and Radboud University Nijmegen.
