John heads the private wealth and succession team at Schofield Sweeney which advises on complex trusts, lifetime tax, estate and succession planning for high net worth individuals and business-owning families.

His dual qualifications as a tax advisor and solicitor uniquely equip him to navigate the complex legal and tax frameworks involved in administering trusts and estates.

John began his career as a corporate tax lawyer at a leading national firm, providing him with a strong foundation for advising on succession planning involving corporate structures. He is a specialist in tax-led strategies, with significant experience in family investment companies, incorporations, corporate reorganisations, and growth share arrangements.

Stamp Duty Land Tax

John is a nationally recognised authority on Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT). He is the author of a leading practitioner textbook on SDLT, now in its 14th year of publication. John also plays an active role in the Stamp Taxes Practitioners Group of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and regularly provides specialist SDLT advice to a wide network of professional firms across the country.
