Jeroen Boelens is a partner in the Intellectual Property practice group at CMS in Amsterdam, where he plays a leading role in the firm’s patent and broader IP driven disputes practice.
As a qualified UPC Representative, Jeroen brings deep expertise in patent law and also advises on trade mark law, trade name law, and unfair competition. He is specialised in complex and high stakes matters spanning the full spectrum of intellectual property rights, with a particular focus on sophisticated patent litigation and cross border enforcement strategies. His practice covers both contentious and advisory work, including strategic portfolio management, R&D collaborations, technology transfer, licensing structures, and IP driven transactions. Jeroen represents a broad and diverse client base, ranging from multinational blue chip companies to rapidly growing scale ups and university spin offs. His clients operate in a wide range of innovation intensive sectors, including life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, high technology, mechanical engineering, telecoms, and advanced consumer products. He is recognised for his ability to distill complex technical issues into clear, actionable legal strategies, his pragmatic and commercially minded guidance, and his experience navigating multi jurisdictional disputes involving parallel proceedings before courts and patent offices.
In addition to his legal practice, Jeroen is an active thought leader in the IP field. He frequently writes and speaks on developments in patent litigation, life sciences regulation, and broader intellectual property trends. He is involved in several leading international professional organisations, including AIPPI, EPLAW, INTA, and LES. Within AIPPI, he serves on the Nominating Committee and acts as the Dutch delegate to the Standing Committee on Biotechnology - roles that underscore his long standing commitment to shaping IP policy and contributing to international dialogue on innovation.
Jeroen also serves on the editorial board of European Patent Litigation in Practice, where he contributes to thought leadership on litigation strategy and harmonisation within Europe. He is co author of the respected Dutch IP treatise Kort Begrip van het Intellectuele Eigendomsrecht, widely used in both practice and academia. Jeroen joined CMS in 2025, following a career as a partner at another law firm in both New York and Amsterdam. His international background, combined with extensive experience in European patent practice, enables him to operate effectively at the intersection of global innovation, cross border disputes, and strategic IP protection.
