Jan is a partner in Freshfields' antitrust group based in Washington, DC. He advises clients on a variety of antitrust issues, including high-stakes merger and conduct investigations before the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and high-profile civil antitrust litigation in federal court. Jan represents companies in a wide range of industries, including life sciences, technology, financial services, higher ed, and industrials.

Jan is highly regarded by clients for providing practical legal and commercial advice on complex transactions and litigation matters. Clients value Jan’s ability to translate his deep understanding of antitrust economics into clear, commonsense legal strategy aimed at effectively achieving their commercial goals.

Jan draws on his nearly 20 years of experience, including in government, to advise clients on difficult antitrust issues. Jan previously served as the principal attorney advisor to an FTC Commissioner, providing enforcement recommendations, reviewing settlement proposals, working with Congress on antitrust legislation, and drafting policy initiatives and speeches.

Following law school, Jan clerked for the Honorable Mark S. Davis in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Jan has also served as an editor of the Antitrust Law Journal, the premier antitrust publication, and as an adjunct professor at the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University.
