Iqbal Rajahbalee, Managing Partner of BLC Robert, is a Senior Counsel with over 35 years of practice. He has acted on several cross-border transactions, including asset financing and investment funds both for the public and private sectors. He is also an experienced litigator, having appeared in cases before the Mauritian courts, the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council and in domestic and international arbitrations.
Iqbal has advised the Government on financial law matters and assisted in drafting numerous pieces of legislation including the Trusts Act, Securities Act, the Financial Services Development Act and the Insurance Act.
Iqbal was the first Chief Executive of the Financial Services Commission, the regulatory body of the non-banking finance industry in Mauritius. Previously, Iqbal had spent over 10 years at the Attorney General‘s Office, rising to the position of Assistant Solicitor General, before being appointed the first Executive Director of the Mauritius Offshore Business Activities Authority.
