Ian specialises in asset protection advice for high-net-worth individuals and their families, including entrepreneurs, business professionals and land owners. His expertise includes inheritance tax and capital gains tax planning, succession planning and protection of assets. Trusts are an important aspect of many of these arrangements, and Ian advises both on the use of trusts and other structures to facilitate asset protection and succession planning.
Ian joined Dundas & Wilson in 1986, becoming a partner there in 1990. In August 1997 he became a founding partner of Turcan Connell and became Managing Partner in April 2012.In April 2019, he stood down as Managing Partner (succeeded by Gillian Crandles) to focus solely on client facing work.
Ian is a member of STEP (Society of Tax and Estate Practitioners) and an associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
