Gale Rubenstein serves as counsel in the Restructuring Group at Goodmans, which is consistently and widely recognized as Canada’s best and leading corporate restructuring practice. She practises in the areas of commercial insolvency, corporate restructuring, pensions and regulatory matters.
Career
Throughout her distinguished career specializing in commercial insolvency, corporate restructuring, pensions, and regulatory matters, Gale has earned widespread acclaim as a preeminent restructuring and insolvency expert. She has played a pivotal role in some of the country’s most substantial and intricate restructurings, including serving as lead insolvency counsel to the Investors Committee chaired by Purdy Crawford, addressing Asset Backed Commercial Paper, Nortel Networks, and advising the Province of Ontario on the restructurings of Chrysler, General Motors, US Steel Canada, Algoma Steel and Laurentian University.
For more than two decades Gale has received global recognition for her expertise in numerous publications including Chambers and Partners, IFLR1000, Euromoney's Guide to the World’s Leading Insolvency and Restructuring Lawyers and Guide to the World's Leading Women in Business Law, Who’s Who Legal, Best Lawyers in Canada and Lexpert. She has been honoured with the Ontario Bar Association’s Award for Excellence in Insolvency Law and currently holds the distinguished title of Fellow of the Insolvency Institute of Canada.
Professional Memberships
In addition to her legal accomplishments, Gale is an experienced board member. Currently, she serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the University Pension Plan and holds board positions with Algoma Steel Group Inc. and the Scarborough Health Network. She is also a member of the CDIC Advisory Panel. Her extensive board experience also includes over a decade with Hydro One, where she chaired and was a member of numerous committees.
Gale is actively engaged with the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto. She has lent her expertise to various organizations, including the board of Outside the March Theatre Company, the Insolvency Institute of Canada, where she chaired the National Membership Committee, and the board of the Osgoode Hall Law School Alumni Association.
She is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, Canadian Bar Association, INSOL International, Insolvency Institute of Canada.
