David is a leading lawyer in the Spanish energy and regulated sectors market, with over 24 years’ experience advising on complex regulatory, transactional and contentious matters.
His practice focuses on energy, infrastructure and environmental law, with particular expertise in grid access and connection, energy storage (stand-alone and hybrid), and the regulatory framework applicable to large-scale projects.
David regularly advises international investors, utilities and financial institutions on high-profile M&A and financing transactions in the energy sector, as well as on corporate transactions involving concessional assets and regulated infrastructure, including in the water, waste management and data centre sectors.
He also advises on the development of projects from early-stage structuring through to ready-to-build and COD. He is widely recognised for his extensive experience leading and acting as counsel in administrative and judicial review proceedings in the energy and environmental sectors, including disputes relating to grid access, environmental permitting and other regulatory challenges affecting energy projects.
He has extensive expertise in the regulatory framework of the electricity market, including system operation procedures and the rules governing the dispatch, management and commercialisation of electricity. He also advises on a broad range of electricity trading and offtake arrangements, with a particular focus on the structuring and negotiation of power purchase agreements under Spanish and EU regulation.
David maintains close contact with the industry through his active involvement in leading sector associations. He was appointed Secretary of the Board of the Spanish Photovoltaic Association (UNEF) in 2014. He is also a founding partner of AEDEN, the Spanish Association of Energy Lawyers.
