Christopher Coltart KC began his career in commercial property litigation, acting for banks, pension funds, and other financial institutions in high-value claims. Over 25 years, he has become a leading specialist in business crime, professional disciplinary cases, and sports law, and is recommended across all three areas.
He leads the Business Crime team at 2 Hare Court, representing companies and senior executives accused of financial wrongdoing by regulators such as the SFO and FCA. His practice spans fraud, false accounting, market abuse, Companies Act offences, tax evasion, insider dealing, corruption, bribery, money laundering, and data protection breaches.
In professional disciplinary matters, Christopher has acted for and against regulators including the GMC, SRA, SIA, and Takeover Panel. He has represented accountants before the FRC and advised on cases involving Tesco, Sports Direct, Serco, and Carillion.
In sports law, he sits as an arbitrator for Sport Resolutions and serves on panels for the Rugby Football Union and England & Wales Cricket Board. He has represented The FA in high-profile cases and recently served on an MCC panel following the 2023 Ashes.
Christopher also has major inquest experience, including the 7/7 London bombings and Hillsborough, and undertakes private prosecutions, being one of the few silks recommended in this field. Recent work includes prosecuting a major fraud, advising a UK airline on a potential private prosecution, and defending a contested will.
