Brian Cathey

Practice Areas

Brian Cathey is a board-certified appellate lawyer who has litigated and appealed a wide variety of claims for clients in the petroleum, transportation, insurance, and construction industries, including contractual, commercial tort, catastrophic personal injury, and wrongful death claims. As an appellate advocate, Mr. Cathey has briefed and argued on behalf of clients before multiple courts of appeals, including the Texas Supreme Court and most of Texas’s fourteen intermediate appellate courts. He is also frequently engaged in assisting clients in the trial court with preparing dispositive motions, jury charges, post-verdict motions, and providing trial assistance.

Career

After graduating from the University of Michigan Law School, Mr. Cathey was an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP in New York City. Upon returning home to Texas, he served as a briefing attorney for Justice John Devine on the Texas Supreme Court and a law clerk for the Honorable Carolyn Dineen King on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Mr. Cathey has the distinction of having earned the highest score on the Texas Bar Exam in 2012.
