Practice Areas
Ashley is a partner in the firm’s Personal & Succession Planning practice group. She has an LL.M. in taxation and a certificate in estate planning from Georgetown University Law Center, and she brings unique and valuable experience to the practice, having spent nearly six years with the national office of a Big Four accounting firm in the international high-net-worth private client group in Washington, D.C. Ashley’s legal work primarily involves complex estate and business planning, as well as sophisticated tax planning for high-net-worth executives, investors, and family business owners. She regularly leads complex and often nuanced research, drafting, and tax and financial modeling using self-created Excel models and other financial software. Her work frequently serves as the foundation of highly tailored wealth and asset protection planning engagements, including a $100 million sale and a set of trust transactions to transfer over $300 million. Her background also allows her to be a key preparer and reviewer of transfer tax returns, including gift, estate, and GST tax returns for U.S. citizen, resident, and non-resident aliens, and dual-citizens taking treaty-based return positions, most recently clients from the United Kingdom and Japan.
Ashley has published articles in ABA Real Property, Trusts and Estates newsletters and in Probate & Property Magazine (2013 best article of the year), and she is a contributing author of multiple volumes of The Tax Advisor (AICPA); EY Worldwide International Estate and Inheritance Tax Guide; EY Tax Guide; A Guide to International Estate Planning: Drafting, Compliance, and Administration Strategies; Tax Management Portfolio 511, Section 1411, Net Investment Income Tax; and quarterly volumes of the International Update in Leimberg publications. In 2021, she presented on complex GST tax concepts, and in 2023, she wrote and presented on the Corporate Transparency Act.
