Partner with over 30 years’ experience of personal injury litigation, specialising in pursuing clinical negligence claims for individuals. Primary areas of experience are birth trauma cases, cerebral palsy, stillbirth and catastrophic injury. Expertise includes surgical, GP, delayed diagnosis of cancer cases, dental and related health professionals’ claims.
Career
Qualified 1989; joined Balfour+Manson in 1987. LLB Honours Edinburgh University 1985; Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Law and Ethics Kings College London 1986; DLP Glasgow 1987. Dual qualified in Scots and English law, practised in Edinburgh, London and Hong Kong.
Professional Memberships
Accredited Senior Litigator and Accredited Clinical Negligence Specialist by Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. Assessor for Clinical Negligence specialists’ applications for APIL. Accredited Specialist in Medical Negligence Law (Law Society of Scotland).
Publications
Contributions to publication and Guidelines for professionals and families on pregnancy loss and birth trauma. Member of numerous Government consultations including No Fault Compensation, Duty of Candour, Reform of Damages in Scotland, the Scottish Patient Safety Commissioner, and Pre-action Clinical Negligence Protocol. Regular presenter for medico-legal conferences, and training for expert witnesses.
Personal
Enjoys spending time with the family, yoga, piano and dancing to Abba.
