Alistair Haggerty

Alistair prosecutes and defends in serious criminal cases and has a nationwide health and safety and environmental practice.

He is a CPS grade 4 prosecutor and on the level A panel of Specialist Regulatory Advocates. He is frequently instructed at an early stage in complex matters to provide advice and to shape the direction of a case. He is well-regarded for his breadth of legal knowledge, focused and persuasive advocacy, and tactical acumen.

His practice extends across the full range of criminal allegations including murder, manslaughter, rape, serious violence, child abuse, high-level fraud, drugs conspiracies, and firearms offences. Alistair has recently appeared in a number of cases against, or co-defending with, Kings Counsel.

He is often briefed in substantial multi-handed cases in which his eye for detail and strategic insight are especially valued. He combines a detailed knowledge of the law and a forensic approach to preparation with a natural empathy and ability to judge the emotional tone of a case. It is this skill which has seen him praised for his ability with vulnerable complainants and defendants, young witnesses, and those suffering from serious mental health problems.

Alistair is instructed by regulatory bodies across the country. His experience spans a number of disciplines, including health and safety, food standards, and environmental law. In recent years, he has prosecuted and defended in several cases involving fatalities which have attracted significant media attention.
