Alex specialises in inquests and inquiries, data protection/information law, public/administrative law and police law.
Alex is a member of the Attorney General’s B Panel of Counsel.
Alex has appeared in several of the most significant public inquiries of recent years. As counsel to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, he was the lead junior for two teams, including doing advocacy. He was instructed in the COVID-19 Inquiry as lead counsel for NHS Digital, and, in a later module, as sole counsel for an international technology company.
Alex is instructed as sole counsel by a public authority in the inquiry into the Nottingham attacks.
Alex has many years’ experience in Article 2 and jury inquests for the police, prisons, and other public authorities, including in respect of prisoners and persons held under section or subject to DOLS; deaths in custody; and deaths occurring in the context of missing persons investigations, police pursuits, and restraint.
Alex acts for a wide range of clients including government departments, police forces, prisons, public authorities, and private individuals.
Alex contributes to 5 Essex Chambers’ newsletters ‘Insight: Inquests and Inquiries’ and ‘The Data Brief.’ He provides training and seminars to a range of audiences from legal professionals to specialist police units.
