Career
With more than 20 years of experience, Alejandro Díaz heads the Intellectual Property practice at Mijares, Angoitia, Cortés y Fuentes and is a recognised advisor on complex, high-stakes IP mandates in Mexico and across Latin America. His practice covers the full lifecycle of brand and content protection, with particular strength in trademarks, copyrights, IP litigation, domain name disputes, information technology and advertising regulation, licensing and franchising, and entertainment and sports law. We highly appreciate Alejandro's current ranking as Leading Associate and we firmly believe his recognition should continue in the next edition in light of his track record, market impact and leadership of one of the country’s most active IP platforms.
Alejandro is particularly noted for IP rights enforcement in both online and offline environments. He designs and executes technology-enabled enforcement strategies against infringement on social media, marketplaces and other digital channels, and regularly leads criminal actions related to falsification and anti-counterfeiting, raids against counterfeit products, border measures and customs interventions, as well as complex administrative appeals and amparo proceedings. On the transactional side, he advises on IP-driven M&A and financing, IP due diligence, coexistence and settlement agreements, licensing and assignment of IP assets, technology transfer, sponsorship arrangements and franchise structures, allowing him to integrate contentious, regulatory and transactional considerations into cohesive, business-oriented advice.
Alejandro was appointed as Rising Star by two consecutive years by the “Expert Guides” (Legal Media Group) in the field of Trademarks in Mexico. He is recognized and ranked in many legal publications.

Work Highlights
Key matters that underscore his expertise include:
Lead counsel to the trust administering the artistic legacy of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo in one of Mexico’s most consequential copyright disputes against Banco de México, coordinating multi-forum litigation and Supreme Court review over economic rights in a catalog valued at approximately USD 4 billion, while also structuring global licensing and commercialization strategies.
● Hasbro: As leading counsel Alejandro provided comprehensive trademark services including clearance, prosecution, and portfolio management for their entertainment and consumer-products brands—handling everything from risk assessments and coexistence agreements; also implemented robust monitoring systems, watch services, and opposition strategies to detect and combat conflicting applications, squatting, and parasitic filings, ensuring the continuous protection, distinctiveness, and enforceability of the clients' intellectual property assets throughout Mexico.
● Mundo Juan Gabriel: advising the estate and rights-holder of one of Mexico’s most iconic artists on trademark and personality-rights enforcement, renegotiation of global streaming and royalty arrangements, and rights-clearance for high-profile audiovisual projects, including conducting rights-clearance for a Netflix documentary, integrating entertainment, IP and regulatory considerations in a highly visible cultural mandate.
● Vida Divina Worldwide Inc.: Providing comprehensive legal services to the client a multinational MLM company operating in the coffee, tea, and nutritional supplements industry, encompassing full-service trademark portfolio management including design, prosecution, clearance searches, oppositions, coexistence agreements, renewals, international filings, and ongoing enforcement activities such as monitoring and online takedowns across Mexico and multiple foreign jurisdictions. The work also includes designing and implementing a cross-border franchise system for the client's specialty-coffee retail business covering corporate structuring, IP ownership arrangements, tax-efficient royalty planning, customs and sanitary compliance, and harmonization of franchise agreements with applicable legal frameworks. Additionally, the representation involves strategic constitutional and regulatory litigation.
Industry Sector Expertise
Alejandro’s combination of enforcement strength, transactional insight and sector-diverse experience — covering financial services, technology, media and entertainment, consumer products, hospitality and sports, among others — positions him as one of the leading IP practitioners of his generation in Mexico. His leadership of an integrated, technology-forward IP practice, his role in precedent-shaping matters and his commitment to mentoring the next generation of lawyers collectively support his background.
